Gonzalo Quiroga, a 6-4 junior outside hitter for No. 3 UCLA, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division I-II National Player of the Week. Quiroga helped lead the Bruins to a pair of road MPSF wins over UC San Diego and then-No. 2 UC Irvine, extending their winning streak to six. Their first match of the weekend had them in San Diego to take on UC San Diego, where Quiroga nailed 13 kills and hit .667 to go along with his five digs. He followed up that performance with a 21-kill match (.439 hitting percentage) against then-No. 2 UC Irvine, which was the fifth time this season he has recorded 20 or more kills. For his efforts, he was also named the MPSF Player of the Week and UCLA Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week. He currently leads the team in kills (345), aces (43) and points (413.5) this season. This is the 18th time an athlete from UCLA has taken home Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week honors, with the most recent coming from Dane Worley after he won it on March 19th earlier this year. The Bruins are coached by John Speraw.
