Greg Falcone, a 6-8 junior middle blocker for No. 3 Springfield College, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division III National Player of the Week. Falcone played a major role in three victories last week, with wins over SUNY New Paltz, No. 7 Nazareth and No. 10 Vassar at the Vassar College Invitational. After a sweep of the Hawks where Falcone hit .714 (five kills) and recorded nine blocks, the junior stepped it up in his following two matches. Against Nazareth, he nailed 10 kills hitting .750 with eight blocks, which was good enough to rest in their following match against Johnson and Wales. After the J&W victory, the New York native took the court against Vassar. He didn't let up tallying another 16 kills, eight blocks and a .667 attack percentage to be named MVP of the Invitational. For the week, he averaged 4.09 points and 2.27 blocks per set while hitting an astounding .698. This is the 20th time a Springfield men's volleyball player has been named a Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week, with the most recent coming last week when Alistair Matthews garnered the award. This is also Springfield's third Player of the Week in the 2012 season. The Pride are coached by Charlie Sullivan.
