Greg Petty, a 6-6 junior outside hitter for then-No. 11 Lewis, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division I-II National Player of the Week. The Lewis Flyers hit the road last weekend to New England to play non-conference opponents from the EIVA in Harvard and Sacred Heart. In their first match of the weekend, Petty smashed 11 kills on .500 hitting in the four-set win over the then-No. 13 ranked Crimson. He also added five digs, three assists, two blocks and an ace. The following day against the Pioneers, the Illinois native was even more impressive nailing another 14 kills and hit a career-high .706. Petty was strong on the defensive end as well, tallying another four digs and seven blocks. For the week, the junior outside hit an even .600, averaging 3.57 kills, 4.64 points and 1.29 digs and blocks per set. Lewis has just one match left until they kick off conference play against No. 1 Loyola-Chicago on February 5. This is the 13th time in program history a Lewis student-athlete has garnered Sports Imports/Player of the Week honors, with the most recent coming from Eric Fitterer on February 12, 2013. The Flyers are coached by Dan Friend.
