Haley Eckerman, a sophomore outside hitter for No. 3 University of Texas, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week. The Longhorns claimed two conference wins at home with sweeps over Texas Tech and West Virginia on their way to clinching the Big 12 Title. The sophomore had a big match against the Red Raiders, smashing 19 kills while hitting at a .486 clip, adding another two service aces and five digs. She turned in a very similarly stellar performance against the Mountaineers a few days later, this time hitting .481 with 16 kills and five more digs. The win over West Virginia also marked Texas' 40th consecutive home victory against conference foes. For the week, Eckerman averaged 5.83 kills and 1.67 digs per set with a .484 attack percentage. She currently leads the league in kills (4.64), service aces (0.45) and points (5.35). This is the seventh time a student-athlete from the University of Texas has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week, with the most recent honor going to Jullian Faucette the week of November 23, 2010. The Longhorns are coached by Jerritt Elliott.
