Haley Eckerman, a junior outside hitter for No. 1 The University of Texas, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week. Coming off a national championship season a year ago, Eckerman has helped lead the Longhorns to another outstanding season as they gear up for another NCAA Tournament run. The Iowa native smashed a season-high 25 kills on .333 hitting with 13 digs in their win over then-No. 24 Kansas, extending their winning streak to 14 and a perfect 11-0 in conference play. She was the only Big 12 player to average over six kills per set (6.25) last week, which was well above her seasonal average of 3.84. It was also her sixth double-double of the season and her fourth in conference. This is the eighth time a student-athlete from The University of Texas has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week, and the second for Eckerman. She last took home the honor on November 20, 2012. The Longhorns are coached by Jerritt Elliott.
