James Shaw, a 6-8 sophomore setter for No. 6 Stanford University, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division I-II National Player of the Week. It was another tough MPSF schedule for the Cardinal as they hit the road last week to face then-No. 4 Pepperdine and then-No. 6 USC. Against the Waves, Shaw led his squad to a four-set victory by tallying 56 assists, five digs, five kills and two blocks while quarterbacking the offense to a .377 team hitting percentage. Two days later live on the Pac-12 Networks, Stanford pieced together a dominant performance with a clean sweep of the Trojans. In addition to his eight kills, .727 hitting percentage, six digs and four blocks, he tallied 42 assists and led his offense to their second highest team hitting percentage in the rally scoring era in school history hitting at a .527 clip. The victory at USC was the Cardinal's first since 2010.
This is the 14th time in program history a Stanford student-athlete has garnered Sports Imports/Player of the Week honors, with the most recent coming from Eric Mochalski on February 11th of this year. The Cardinal is coached by John Kosty.
