Jessie Heavenrich, a junior setter for then-No. 13 Christopher Newport University, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week. She earned the award after quaterbacking her team to a perfect 4-0 mark at the Trinity University (Texas) Fall Classic, which included victories over two teams ranked in the AVCA Division III Coaches Top 25 Poll. Christopher Newport began the event by sweeping Puget Sound, with Heavenrich dishing out 40 assists, in addition to collecting six digs, one kill and one ace. She followed by propelling the Captains to a blanking of then-No. 22 Trinity, handing out 35 assists, while also picking up 15 digs, five kills and two blocks to notch her first double-double of the weekend. In CNU's 3-0 win over Pacific, Heavenrich tallied 28 assists, 10 digs, three kills, one ace and one block. She wrapped up action by fueling the Captains to their fourth sweep of the event, this time coming over then-No. 14 Southwestern (Texas). In the match, the junior sparkplug contributed 38 assists, nine digs and three blocks. For the week, Heaverich averaged 11.70 assists, 3.33 digs and 1.17 points per set. This marks the first time an athlete Christopher Newport has earned the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week award. The Captains are coached by Lindsay Birch.
