Jim Schultz, a 6-2 opposite for No. 4 Carthage College, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division III National Player of the Week. It was a solid all-around week for the opposite as he led his Red Men to a 4-0 record in last weekend's Carthage Tournament, with three of those victories coming against teams ranked in the latest AVCA Coaches Poll or receiving votes. Offensively for the week, he averaged 3.64 kills per set and hit a robust .414, including performances against No. 14 Baruch and Theil where he hit .471 and .727, respectively. Defensively, he averaged 0.57 blocks and 1.86 digs per set, with his 10-dig and 16-kill match leading to a double-double against No. 7 Nazareth. He wrapped up the weekend against RV Ramapo with a seven-kill, three-ace, four-dig and four-block performance to help give Carthage a perfect weekend.
This is the 11th time in program history a Carthage student-athlete has garnered Sports Imports/Player of the Week honors, with the most recent coming from Connor Wexter on March 12th of last year. The Red Men are coached by L.J. Marx.
