Bortak helped lead the Eagles to a perfect 4-0 weekend that saw them defeat three schools in the AVCA Top-15 Coaches Poll, including No. 1 Springfield. Their first match of the weekend was against No. 12 Medaille, where Bortak nailed 15 kills and hit an astounding .824. Later that day, the sophomore tallied seven kills and recorded a career-high eight blocks in the five-set defeat of the rival Pride. He continued his strong play against No. 9 SUNY New Paltz, recording another 13 kills hitting .765 before easily dispatching Penn State Altoona in straight sets. This is the 22nd time a player has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week, with the most recent coming last week when Ross Madden took home the honor. Bortak is now a two-time recipient after winning it on February 28th of last year. The Eagles are coached by Kevin Moore.
