Kaitlyn Leary, a senior outside hitter for No. 13 Ohio State University, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week. It was a big weekend for Leary and the Buckeyes, winning all three matches and jumping from a No. 23 ranking to its No. 13 position in the latest AVCA Division I Coaches Poll. The Ohio native recorded a double-double with 20 kills, 10 digs and five blocks in the upset victory over then-No. 16 Western Kentucky, but she was just getting warmed up. Later that day facing then-No. 15 Florida State, she smashed 27 kills on .420 hitting while also recording another eight digs. She kept her foot on the accelerator and finished the weekend with a 19-kill performance in the sweep over Florida Gulf Coast University. For the week, the Sheraton Seminole Invitational MVP averaged 5.5 kills and 1.8 digs per set while hitting .329. This is the ninth time a student-athlete from Ohio State has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week, with the most recent coming from Mari Hole on November 12th of last year. The Buckeyes are coached by Geoff Carlston.
