Kaitlynn Pelger, a junior middle blocker for No. 11 Kansas State University, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week. Pelger has played an integral part in their program-best 12-0 start this season, including three wins last week at the Golden Hurricane Classic in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She began the tournament against host Tulsa, where she recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs while hitting .455. The second match of the week paired the Wildcats against then-No. 10 Minnesota Golden Gophers. She nailed 16 kills with nine digs, five blocks and three aces in the hard-fought five-set win. The Kansas native had her best offensive performance in the final match of the weekend against then-No. 20 Dayton, racking up 19 kills while hitting an astounding .654. For the week, the middle blocker averaged 4.18 kills and 2.45 digs per set and hit .440, ranking her in the top-5 of the Big 12 in hitting percentage, kills, service aces and points. This honor marks the fourth player from Kansas State to receive the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week award, with the most recent coming the week of September 27, 1999 when Dawn Cady garnered the award. The Wildcats are coached by Suzie Fritz.
