Luis Vega, a 6-0 sophomore outside hitter for No. 1 Springfield College, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division III National Player of the Week. After a 16-day layoff, the Pride was back in action last weekend and completed two sweeps thanks to the strong play of Vega. After notching ten kills, seven digs, three blocks and a .304 hitting percentage over Vassar, he had a match to remember later that day against Division I Sacred Heart. He torched the Pioneers with a career-high 27 kills, which were the most by a Springfield player since AJ Nally accomplished the feat against NYU in 2009. He also hit .558 in that match and recorded another 12 digs for a double-double.
This is the 23rd time in program history a Springfield student-athlete has garnered Sports Imports/Player of the Week honors, with the most recent coming from Greg Falcone on February 26th of last year. The Pride is coached by Charlie Sullivan.
