Madelyn Densberger, a sophomore outside hitter for No. 18 Sonoma State University, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of the Week. Densberger used tremendous offensive and defensive play to lead then-No. 24 SSU to a perfect 4-0 record and a Seawolf Spike Tournament Title. After recording 20 kills and 12 digs in the first two victories over Dominican (CA) (.471 hitting percentage) and Hawai'i Pacific (.357), she had her best match against then-No. 12 Western Washington. Against the Vikings, the California native smashed 14 kills with only one error on .325 hitting to go along with an astounding 20 digs. For good measure, she ended the weekend adding another 11 kills (.429), seven digs and three blocks over Montana State Billings. For the week, she averaged 3.46 kills and three digs per set on her way to tournament MVP honors. This is the second time a student-athlete from Sonoma State has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of the Week, with the most recent coming from Christina Difani on October 20, 1997. The Seawolves are coached by Bear Grassl.
