Ryan Boyce, a 6-1 senior setter for No. 1 BYU, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division I-II National Player of the Week. Boyce helped set the Cougars to wins over two top-10 AVCA nationally ranked teams in then-No. 9 Cal State Northridge and then-No. 4 Long Beach State. Against the Matadors, he dished out 38 assists adding another six digs, one ace and two blocks in the first road match of the weekend. BYU then traveled to Long Beach to take on the 49ers, where Boyce and the Cougars handled their MPSF rivals in the second sweep of the week. The California native collected 35 assists leading the top team in the MPSF to a .434 team hitting percentage while also accumulating another seven digs and four blocks. This is the 23rd time an athlete from BYU has taken home Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week honors, with the most recent coming from Ben Patch after he won it on March 5th earlier this year. The Cougars are coached by Chris McGown.
