Spellman proved to be an offensive force for the Raiders, helping his team to a 3-1 record and a second place finish in the Nazareth College Purple and Gold Invitational. Their first match of the weekend was up against the host school and No. 1 team in the nation, and Rivier gave them all they could handle in the five-set loss. Spellman smashed 16 kills on .556 hitting against the Golden Flyers adding five digs. In the following two victories over D'Youville and Ramapo, Spellman had a combined 17 kills with hitting percentages of .364 and .526, respectively. For his efforts, the Connecticut native was named to the All-Invitational Team. This is the 11th time a Rivier player has been named a Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week, with the most recent honor coming from Zach Hansen on January 25, 2010. The Raiders are coached by Craig Kolek.
