Sheldon Coure, a 6-2 freshman middle blocker for NJCU, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division III National Player of the Week. The back-to-back Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week led his Gothic Knights to a perfect 3-0 record posting two career-highs along the way. After the sweep of Yeshiva that saw him tally five aces, Coure notched his first career-high with 19 kills on .500 hitting against The Sage Colleges. Defensively, he added six blocks and a pair of digs. Later that day they matched up with host Mt. St. Vincent where he shattered his previous career-high with 25 kills with a .462 hitting percentage and five blocks in the five-set win. For the week, he averaged 5.73 points, 4.55 kills and 1.27 blocks per set while hitting at a .451 clip.
This is the second time in program history an NJCU student-athlete has garnered Sports Imports/Player of the Week honors, with the other coming from Damon LaSalle on February 20, 2006. The Gothic Knights are coached by Robert Cole.
