Stephanie Holthus, a senior outside hitter for Northwestern University, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week. Holthus recorded s double-double in all three victories to help lead Northwestern to the Wildcat Classic Title. She started the weekend off with a bang smashing 27 kills (one shy of a career-high) on .368 hitting while registering a career-high 24 digs to help them out of an 0-2 hole to beat South Florida in five. She followed the performance by breaking a Northwestern record recording 24 kills (.426) in a three-set victory over Miami of Ohio. It was the highest total since Iwona Lodzik tallied 22 against North Carolina on Sept. 19, 2003. In the tournament championship against IUPUI, the Illinois native nailed another 17 kills with 11 more digs. Not surprisingly, the three-time Big Ten Player of the Week was named MVP of the Wildcat Classic. For the week, the 2012 AVCA All-American averaged 6.2 kills, 4.1 digs and hit .358 as NU opens conference play on Friday against No. 12 Nebraska. This is the second time a student-athlete from Northwestern has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week, with the most recent coming from Erika Lange on September 8, 2003. The Wildcats are coached by Keylor Chan.
