Thomas Jaeschke, a 6-6 sophomore outside hitter for No. 1 Loyola-Chicago, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division I-II National Player of the Week. Jaeschke led the Ramblers to a pair of wins with double-double performances against difficult MIVA opponents. They first hit the road five days ago to play then-No. 13 Ball State in Muncie, Indiana where the sophomore nailed 14 kills on .462 hitting with 12 digs and two blocks in the four-set victory. Loyola-Chicago then welcomed IPFW to their house last weekend, and handed them a four-set loss on the back of Jaeschke's 19-kill, .514 hitting, 11-dig and four-ace performance. For the week, he averaged 4.12 kills, 2.88 digs, 0.75 aces and 0.38 blocks per set and hit an astounding .492 to keep his team at No. 1 for the third consecutive week.
This is the 13th time in program history a Loyola-Chicago student-athlete has garnered Sports Imports/Player of the Week honors, with the most recent coming from Joseph Smalzer on March 27, 2012. The Ramblers are coached by Shane Davis.
