Tony Ciarelli, a 6-6 senior outside hitter for No. 4 University of Southern California, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division I-II National Player of the Week. Ciarelli helped the Trojans to a pair of road MPSF victories over then-No. 11 Pacific and then-No. 1 Stanford, as they jumped from No. 6 to No. 4 in the latest AVCA Coaches Poll. After the Men of Troy defeated the Tigers for the 12th consecutive time, where Ciarelli had 17 kills and eight digs, they paid a visit to the number one team in the land in the Cardinal. Against Stanford, the California native stepped it up nailing 28 kills and hitting .451. He also recorded a double-double tallying 11 digs on the defensive end. For the week, the senior averaged five kills and just over two digs per set and hit .410. This is the 12th time a USC men's volleyball player has been named a Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week with this being his fourth time taking home the award. He most recently won it the week of April 18th of last year. The Trojans are coached by Bill Ferguson.
