Vendula Strakova, a junior right side for Hampton University, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week. The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week led the Lady Pirates to a perfect 3-0 record and a North Carolina Central Invitational Championship. In the first match of the season against North Carolina Central, Strakova nailed 16 kills while hitting .387 and recorded four aces, five digs and three blocks in the sweep. In the next two victories over Evansville and Murray State, she totaled a combined 51 kills, five aces and 37 digs, including a 26-kill and 24-dig performance against the Purple Aces. It was a great overall weekend covering all facets of the game for the Invitational MVP, finishing the week averaging 5.58 kills, 0.75 aces, 3.08 digs and 0.83 blocks per set.
This is the first time a student-athlete from Hampton has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week. The Lady Pirates are coached by Karen Weatherington.
