AVCA NCCAA National Player of the Year

LEXINGTON, Ky. (December 5, 2012) - Maranatha Baptist Bible College outside hitter Torey DeLozier has been named the 2012 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) NCCAA National Player of the Year. 

 

The 5-10 senior from Watertown, Wis. led her team to the championship match against No. 1 Clearwater Christian, recording 111 kills (5.5 per set), a .361 hitting percentage, 18 blocks (six solo), and 58 digs (2.9 per set).

 

As a team, Maranatha ranked first in the Northern Athletic Conference in kills per set (12.94), points per set (16.7), and hitting percentage (.272), and finished with their best record (10-4) against conference opponents since joining in 2006.

 

The team advanced as far as the NAC Tournament Semifinals against #1 Edgewood College, a team the Crusaders defeated early in the season.

 

In the NCCAA, Maranatha finished with a 14-1 record - their only loss against #1 Clearwater Christian.

DeLozier recorded 2,525 kills and 2,882.5 points to cap an illustrious career. She shattered Kayla Leyden's (Benedictine) previous NAC record of 1,945 set in 2010, and also led the NCAA Division III this season in kills per set (5.96).

 

She was named to the AVCA Division III Midwest All-Region Team, in addition to being named Honorable Mention All-American.

 

The formal presentation of the 2012 AVCA NCCAA National Player of the Year will be made Dec. 14 in Louisville, Kentucky at the AVCA All-America/Players of the Year Banquet, held in conjunction with the 2012 AVCA Annual Convention and NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball National Championships.
