* Denotes total number of years selected to AVCA Division II All-Region Team

2014 AVCA Division II Region Coaches of the Year

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The following coaches have been selected by their region as the 2014 AVCA Division II Regional Coach of the Year. Each of the honorees will represent their region on the 2014 AVCA National Coach of the Year ballot. The awards will be officially presented at the 2014 Jostens Coaches Honors Luncheon in Oklahoma City, Okla. on Thursday, Dec. 18, at the 2014 American Volleyball Coaches Association Annual Convention.

AVCA Division II Atlantic Region Coach of the Year
Rick Hall, Seton Hill University
2014 Record: 32-6, 18-4 PSAC

In his 27th season at the helm of the Seton Hill volleyball program, Rick Hall guided his team to their first-ever NCAA Regional Semifinal match against #1 Wheeling Jesuit. Seton Hill ended the season with a 32-6 overall record, setting a new school record for wins in a season.  A mainstay at Seton Hill, Hall coached his team to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2013, and improved on that mark this season. Earlier this month, two of his players were named to the All-PSAC West First Team. Under Hall, the Griffins have won four district championships and two regional championships. This year marks Hall's second AVCA Regional Coach of the Year award (1996-NAIA).

AVCA Division II Central Region Coach of the Year
Jim Boos, University of Minnesota Duluth
2014 Record: 33-2, 20-0 NSIC

Since Boos became the Bulldogs Head Coach in 2002 he has done nothing but win. The all-time winningest coach in program history, once UMD entered the AVCA Coaches Poll in his first year, they have stayed in every ranking since then. In 2014, he led his squad to a perfect 20-0 record in one of, if not the toughest conference in the country with four NSIC schools ranked in the top-6 of the latest poll.  They led the conference in a few major statistical categories including opponents hitting percentage (.143), assists (14.54/s) and kills (15.32/s). This is the fourth time Boos has taken home an AVCA Region Coach of the Year honor, with the three others coming consecutively in 2004, 2005 and 2006.

AVCA Division II East Region Coach of the Year
Robin Salters, University of New Haven
2014 Record: 24-8, 11-3 Northeast-10

The University of New Haven volleyball team has only had two coaches in program history, with Salters being one of them.  Since she took over the Chargers in 1994, she has posted 586 victories with just 163 losses.  This year, New Haven will participate in the NCAA Division II Quarterfinals for the 13th time and its second in three years. After falling to Adelphi in the conference championship match, they rallied at the perfect time to rattle off three straight victories in the NCAA Tournament, dropping just one total set. They continue their quest for a championship on December 4th in Louisville when they will take on Arkansas-Fort Smith.  Salters is now an eight-time AVCA Region Coach of the Year honoree (1995, 1996, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2012).

AVCA Division II Midwest Region Coach of the Year
Tracy Rietzke, Rockhurst University
2014 Record: 28-5, 16-2 GLVC

Rietzke has been around Rockhurst for a long time, 26 years to be exact, and he's done nothing but win. He currently ranks second among all-time NCAA Division II coaches in wins, now totaling 1,119. This year they played in their eighth all-time NCAA Tournament and earned a fourth seed in the Midwest Regional. It was their first tournament appearance since 2012. He coached two players to First-Team All-GLVC and one on the second team. This marks Rietzke's second all-time AVCA Region Coach of the Year honor, with his first award coming in 1999 when they were in the South Central Region.

AVCA Division II South Region Coach of the Year
Chris Catanach, University of Tampa
2014 Record: 31-1, 16-0 Sunshine State

Few coaches have the track record of success like Chris Catanach. In his 31 seasons leading the Spartans he has amassed nearly 1,000 wins and he'll reach that mark if he duplicates the win total in 2015. Here in 2014, the Spartans completed another perfect conference season and just one loss overall back on September 12th. They enter the NCAA Quarterfinals one of the hottest teams in the nation, notching 27 consecutive wins. It's not only the amount of victories, but how they've won. Tampa hasn't played a single five-set match all season and 21 of their 31 victories have come via the sweep. The AVCA Region Coach of the Year Award is no stranger to Catanach, with 2014 signifying his record 17th honor (1987, 1991, 1992, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2013).

AVCA Division II Southeast Region Coach of the Year
Shelton Collier, Wingate University
2014 Record: 34-2, 21-1 SAC

Shelton Collier is no stranger to success, and just a year after running the table in South Atlantic Conference play, he has guided Wingate to a stellar 21-1 conference record. The pattern of success continued as Wingate claimed their ninth consecutive SAC regular season and conference tournament championships. Wingate has compiled the two longest SAC winning streaks in league history over the past eight years. The Bulldogs reeled off 83 straight wins from 2007 through 2012. After that streak was snapped, Wingate won 55 consecutive conference contests. The Bulldogs have won 147 of 150 conference matches since 2007. Under Collier's guidance, the Bulldogs have topped the nation in winning percentage over the past seven seasons. Earlier this season, Collier was recognized as the SAC Coach of the Year for the ninth time. The AVCA Southeast Region Coach of the Year award is Collier's fifth in the past seven years.

AVCA Division II South Central Region Coach of the Year
Dave Fleming, Colorado Mesa University
2014 Record: 29-4, 17-1 RMAC

In his tenth season at the head of the Colorado Mesa volleyball program, Dave Fleming coached his team to their first regular season conference championship since 1994, racking up an impressive 17 conference wins along the way, and at one point stringing together 20 straight victories. Over the duration of his stint at Colorado Mesa, Fleming helped his team to four NCAA DII National Tournament appearances and five RMAC West Division titles. The Mavericks also claimed the first RMAC Tournament Championship in school history, sweeping MSU Denver to claim the trophy. Five of the six starters for the Mavericks were recognized with All-RMAC honors, including three All-RMAC First Team appearances.  This is the first AVCA South Central Region Coach of the Year honor for Fleming.

AVCA Division II West Region Coach of the Year
Doug English, Northwest Nazarene University
2014 Record:  24-3, 17-1 GNAC

It was an unbelievable season for the Crusaders, winning the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Title for the first time in program history, and qualified for the NCAA Tournament (No. 1 seed) for their second. Northwest Nazarene led the conference in all major statistical categories but two: hitting percentage, opponent hitting percentage, assists, kills and blocks. NNU also took home a slew of conference awards for their historic campaign including GNAC Player of the Year Michelle Terpstra, Freshman of the Year Madi Ferrell and English winning the GNAC Coach of the Year. This is English's first AVCA Region Coach of the Year honor with a bright future ahead for this second-year head coach.
