Head Coach & Boys' Program Coordinator, Kitchener-Waterloo Predators Volleyball Club
In 2009, Barrett Schitka won three Provincial (State) Championship medals with three different teams (14-U Boys, Bronze, top-five finish nationally; 16-U Boys Ontario Regional Team, Gold; and 17-U Girls, Gold). Schitka is also the Boys' Program Coordinator for the KW Predators Volleyball Club and completes his administrative and coaching tasks while being a full-time undergraduate student at the University of Waterloo in search of two degrees (Chemical Engineering and Spanish/English Translation). Barrett is Canadian NCCP Level II Certified (working on Level III) and is also a Level III (Jr. National Equivalent) Referee with Volleyball Canada.
"I have an intense passion for the game and love teaching," Schitka quips. "Volleyball is such a dynamic game with so many complex variables to process; it's like being the ultimate strategist. I got into coaching because I wanted to continue to be involved in the game beyond being an athlete and referee and wanted to make an impact on the lives of others.
Schitka's career goals in the sport include winning a national championship, working with one of the national teams and, eventually, becoming the head coach of an NCAA Division I volleyball program.
