Head Coach, SUNYIT (Men & Women)
NCAA Division III
Becky Fletcher took over a women's volleyball program at SUNY Institute of Technology that had won only three matches the previous two seasons combined. After doubling that win total in her first season, Fletcher led the Wildcats to 21 wins and a regular season conference championship in 2008. The 21 wins are ten more than the previous high in the program's history. Fletcher also founded the men's program at SUNYIT.
"I've only been a head coach for two years and have been asked (what are my career goals) a few times and I honestly never know how to answer," said Fletcher. "My athletes know that (their) being a great volleyball player is not enough for me. I want great people to graduate from this school and pass on the skills they learned on our team to the people they meet in the future. I want them to pay their knowledge forward.
"I will never forget the anxiety of attending my first large club tournament as a Graduate Assistant," she said. "I was completely overwhelmed and had no idea where to start. After that weekend, I gathered up some courage, volunteered at a few places and met some great college coaches from whom I have absorbed every piece of advice they have had to offer. I love to work along side coaches whose extensive knowledge of the game makes me feel like I have so much to discover. I love to learn and I love to teach."
