Brittany Baume

Assistant Coach, Wittenberg University
Springfield, OH

NCAA Division III

Brittany Baume has been an assistant volleyball coach at her alma mater, Wittenberg University, since 2005. During Baume's tenure at Wittenberg, the Tigers have reached the national semifinals three times, and they posted an undefeated regular season in 2007. She has also been an assistant basketball coach for the past three years.

"Wittenberg University's motto is: ‘Having light we pass it on to others,'" Baume said. "I came back to Witt (after a summer stint teaching and coaching at a London boarding school) and let my biology professors know that I no longer would be trying to go to medical school, but that I wanted to teach biology and coach volleyball instead. I found my light at Wittenberg and want to pass my light on to my student-athletes."

And that is what Baume has done. While coaching both volleyball and basketball at Wittenberg, Baume was assigned the task of taking over all aspects of the basketball program, while the school coped with the loss of Pam Evans Smith, head basketball coach, to cancer, and searched for a new head coach.

"Ultimately, I want to be the head coach of an elite level collegiate volleyball program," said Baume. "I want to continue to pass on my passion for the sport of volleyball, and pass on my light I discovered at Wittenberg as a student, and then all over again as an assistant coach. I want to be a lifelong learner of the sport."
