Assistant Coach, Xavier University
NCAA Division I
Christy Utnage returned to the Atlantic 10 Conference as an assistant coach at Xavier University, after having played collegiately at the University of Dayton. Utnage came to Xavier after spending the two seasons as an assistant at Youngstown State University, and one season as a graduate assistant at Dayton.
"(Christy) was a tremendous asset to us on the court and in the office," said Joe Bonner, Youngstown State head coach. "She has made a name for herself as a tireless recruiter. She has since moved to Xavier where she is the top assistant for a top 50 program in only three years."
"At University of Dayton, I learned that there was so much more to being a student-athlete than just playing the game," said Utnage. "I was also taught a whole other level of the game underneath (then-Dayton head coach) Tim Horsman. He taught me where hard work can get someone, whether it is on or off the court."
Utnage hopes to not only be successful on the court, but also pass on what she learned to the student-athletes she will mentor. "Just recently I have realized that I really do want to be a head coach of a Division I program one day," she said. "I want to compete at the national level consistently year after year. I want to give my players the opportunity to experience the whole student-athlete life, to play in front of large crowds, and be student-athletes that younger players can look up to."
