Assistant Coach, George Washington University
NCAA Division I
Doug English has been an assistant coach at the NCAA Division I level for six seasons, following an All-American career at Cal State Northridge. English spent 2009 at George Washington University, where he coached outside hitters, passers and liberos. The Colonials finished 21-12 overall in 2009, the most wins for the program since 2003.
Prior to the nation's capital, English spent three seasons as an assistant for Boise State University. He has also spent time at Fordham University and Loyola Marymount University. He was a four-year starting libero for Cal State Northridge, earning AVCA First-Team All-America honors in 2003.
"My career plan when I entered college was to be a high school math teacher and run my own high school volleyball program," English said. "During my senior year in college I realized that people make a career out of coaching and once I had that epiphany I was set on coaching. It still allows me to teach, but coaching allows me just to focus on what I enjoy teaching the most, which is volleyball."
