Head Coach, Zionsville High School
Emily Hawthorne has been a varsity high school head coach since she was 21 years old, most recently leading the Zionsville High School program the past two seasons. Hawthorne has also coached club volleyball for 10 years, including founding her own club, Junior Eagles Volleyball Club, in 2007.
"In just one short year, Emily changed the perception of Zionsville Volleyball in the eyes of the students, administration, and the community," said Steven Hawthorne, club coach at Indy Juniors Volleyball Club, where Emily Hawthorne coached from 2005-08. "Emily has worked very hard over the last year to build the confidence of her players through character development programs, as well as the physical and technical training required to compete in one of the most competitive conferences in the state of Indiana."
Since Hawthorne took over the Zionsville program, it has become more involved in community events, such as Relay for Life, which helps Hawthorne mold her players into better human beings, not just volleyball players.
"I have been very fortunate to be surrounded by a handful of very talented and inspiring coaches during my life," she said. "I saw the impact they made in my life and jumped at the chance to try to be that positive influence in the lives of other young ladies. I love having the opportunity to watch athletes learn and grow; helping them achieve their goals and working with them through their struggles. It's an exciting process to be a part of."
