Giovana Melo

Head Coach, Western Nebraska Community College

Scottsbluff, NE

NJCAA Division I

In just two short years, Giovana Melo has made a name for herself at Western Nebraska Community College. Melo led the Cougars to a 42-4 record in 2009, with the squad finishing third at the NJCAA Division I Volleyball Championship for the second consecutive season.  In her two years at the helm, Melo has racked up an impressive 101-8 overall record, after going 59-4 in her first year with the program.

Melo, who was a student-athlete at Arizona State University, coached for two seasons at her alma mater before coming to Western Nebraska. The accolades have begun piling up for the young coach, who is a two-time NJCAA District J Coach of the Year, as well as earning Region IX South Coach of the Year in 2008. She was also a recipient of the inaugural AVCA Thirty Under 30 award one season ago.

Melo cites the reason for her interest in coaching as "the love for the sport." She aspires, among other things, to guide her program to a national title in the future.
