Assistant Coach, University of Montana
NCAA Division I
Following in the footsteps of a mother who has logged 30 years of volleyball coaching experience, Kandice Kelly just completed her third season as assistant coach at the University of Montana. Kelly, a former libero at Montana State University, who ranks third in Big Sky Conference history in career digs, credits her mother, Laurie Kelly, now the head volleyball coach at Rocky Mountain College, for starting her on the path to volleyball coaching.
"My mother is a volleyball coach," said Kandice Kelly. "I have grown up in the gym as she coached at Roundup High School for 20 years and was my coach up until I started playing college. I coached camps with her and got into coaching club while I was playing in college."
During her accomplished playing career at Montana State, Kelly made an impression on her then-assistant coach Jerry Wagner. Now the head coach at Montana, Wagner hired Kelly upon completion of her playing career. Kelly, who earned her MBA from Montana in 2009, has a goal of becoming a collegiate head coach.
