Assistant Coach, Eckerd College
St. Petersburg, FL
NCAA Division II
Kelly Morrisroe is no stranger to Eckerd College. After playing for the Tritons, which included being team captain for two years and helping the team reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history in 2006, she joined the coaching staff as an assistant in 2007.
Once on the staff, she helped guide the team to two more NCAA Tournament appearances, which included an NCAA South Region berth this past season.
Her ties to Eckerd also led her into choosing a coaching career.
"I decided to get into coaching volleyball because of my college coach, Courtney Draper," she said. "I began spending a couple hours a week in her office as a work-study during my freshman year. From that point on, I was hooked. I realized I loved everything about the profession. Not only the actually coaching aspect, but everything else too. When my playing career ended just two years ago, I knew I wasn't read to step off the floor."
Draper, who nominated her assistant for this award, believes Morrisroe has what it takes to succeed in the coaching profession.
"This young coach has been improving her coaching skills since she was in college," she said. "She is the hardest working assistant coach I have ever worked with."
Along with coaching, Morrisroe, who graduated in May 2007 with a degree in Communications, is currently pursuing her master's degree in physical education at the University of South Florida.
