Carli Dale of Juniata College
Named AVCA Division III National Player of the Year
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The
American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) is pleased to announce Juniata
College senior setter Carli Dale as its 2004 AVCA Division III National Player
of the Year.
Dale,
a native of Cochranton, Penn., averages 13.44 assists, 1.16 kills, 3.47 digs,
0.38 service aces and 0.25 blocks per game entering this weekend as the
top-ranked Eagles head into the NCAA Division III Tournament semifinals versus
ninth-ranked New York University. She has helped Juniata to a .302 team hitting
percentage and ranks fifth in the nation in assists per game. Dale is second on
the team in digs and digs per game with 416 and 3.47, respectively. She is third
on the squad with a .419 hitting percentage.
Dale passed the 6,000-career assist mark earlier this season and notched her
fourth season with at least 1,500-assists. She has helped Juniata to at least
the NCAA Division III Tournament quarterfinal round in each of the last four
years, including a third-place finish in 2001. Dale is a three-time AVCA
All-America selection and was named to the first team the last two years.
"Carli is an exceptional person and athlete who is an example of everything good
about college athletics," Juniata Head Coach Larry Bock said. "She excels in
every area in which she competes. Carli's leadership and personality inspires
her teammates and inspires me. I've never coached a harder worker, and I can't
imagine a more deserving recipient of this award."
Dale was selected to all-tournament teams at the Salisbury Eastern Shore
Invitational, the Washington University Teri Clemens National Invitational and
the Trinity (Texas) National Invitational. She was named the Sports Imports/AVCA
Division III National Player of the Week on Sept. 13, 2004, and was the
Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week on three occasions this season. Dale
is the first Juniata player to be named the AVCA Division III National Player of
the Year.
The formal presentation of the 2004 AVCA Division III National Player of the
Year will be made Dec. 17 in Long Beach, Calif., at the AVCA All-America/Players
of the Year Banquet. The banquet, which will take place at the Long Beach Westin
