Erica Duncan, a junior
outside hitter from Skidmore College, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA
Division III National Player of the Week. She earned the award for her MVP
performance last week in helping lead the Thoroughbreds to the Skidmore
Volleyball Classic Tournament title. In the first match of the event, Duncan
hit .463 on 23 kills in 41 attempts and four errors, while adding six digs
and two block assists in the sweep of St. Michael's. In her next match, she
put away 20 kills, while chipping in eight digs, two aces and one block
assist in Skidmore's 3-0 win over Hamilton. Duncan continued her strong play
on day two of the tournament with a 17-kill, eight-dig, two-ace performance
in the Thoroughbreds sweep of St. Lawrence. Duncan finished the tournament
with her best effort of the week, putting away a Skidmore four-game-match
record 34 kills in the 3-1 win over Union in the championship match. She
also chipped in 16 digs to complete the double-double, plus two aces in the
win. For the week, she averaged 7.23 kills, 2.92 digs and 7.77 points per
game, while hitting .335. Duncan is the third player from Skidmore to earn
Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week honors, and the
first since Darryl Manzer received the award on October 11, 2004. The
Thoroughbreds are coached by Hilda Arrechea.
