Veronica Stephens, a senior
setter for #22 Austin, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III
National Player of the Week for her outstanding performances in the
Kangaroos’ four wins last week, which included upset wins over #5 Trinity
(Texas) and #12 Southwestern (Texas). In Austin's win over Southwestern,
Stephens had the first of three double-doubles, as she handed out 64
assists, while adding 18 digs. She followed that up with a 33-assist,
eight-dig performance against Hendrix, and then her second double-double
match of the week, a 46-assist, 12-dig outing in a win over Millsaps. She
finished the week scoring her third double-double, a 70-assist, 16-dig
performance in the win over Trinity. For the week, Stephens averaged 3.38
digs per game and 13.31 assists per game, while leading her team to a .271
hitting percentage. Stephens is the first player from Austin College to
receive the Sports Imports/AVCA National Player of the Week award. The team
is coached by Ed Garza.
