Cal State University, San Bernardino's Kim Morohunfola
Named AVCA Division II Player of the Year

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) is pleased to announce Cal State University, San Bernardino senior middle blocker Kim Morohunfola as its 2003 AVCA Division II National Player of the Year.

Morohunfola, four-time AVCA All-America selection, has led the Coyotes into their first NCAA Division II Elite Eight Tournament. She is hitting .426 on the season, seventh best in NCAA Division II. Morohunfola averages 3.95 kills, 1.05 blocks, 0.81 digs and 0.25 aces per game for Cal State San Bernardino. She averages just over five points per game in matches against nationally ranked teams.

"Kim Morohunfola is and has been one of the most dominating middle blockers in Division II the last four years," said Kim Sudbeck, head coach at Augustana College (S.D.) and chair of the AVCA Division II All-America committee. "She has been apart of a team that has been ranked in the top 10 consistently over her stellar career and it is because of ability and competitive drive that Kim is AVCA Division II Player of the Year."

Morohunfola ranks first on the Coyote all-time block assist chart with 396 while posting the third most career kills in school history. She has played in four NCAA Division II Pacific Region championship matches.

The formal presentation of the award to the 2003 AVCA National Players of the Year will be made Dec. 19 in Dallas at the AVCA All-America/Player of the Year banquet. The banquet, which will take place at the Dallas Wyndham Anatole Hotel, is held in conjunction with the 2003 AVCA National Convention and NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball National Championship.
