Joy Wubben, a 5-11 senior middle blocker for fourth-ranked Concordia University-St. Paul (27-1, 14-0 NSIC), has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of the Week after leading the Golden Bears to wins over 17th-ranked Minnesota State-Moorhead, Minnesota-Crookston and Bemidji State. Wubben hit a combined .425 over the course of three matches while averaging 4.77 kills, 1.89 blocks and 0.88 digs per game. She piled up 12 kills, nine blocks and four digs in the three-game win over Minnesota State-Moorhead while hitting .357 on 28 swings on Nov. 2. Wubben charted a .400 attack percentage against Minnesota-Crookston with 11 kills and four blocks on Nov. 5. She completed the week with 20 kills on a .500 attack percentage and four blocks against Bemidji State. Wubben increased her season numbers to a .400 attack percentage and per game averages of 4.44 kills and 1.48 blocks per game. Wubben also earned the national award on Oct. 18, 2004, and is the only Golden Bear to receive the honor. The Concordia-St. Paul head coach is Brady Starkey.
