Angie Casado, a 5-8
freshman outside hitter for New Jersey Institute of Technology (3-3, 3-2
CACC), has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of
the Week after pacing the Highlanders to three victories and snapping the
school’s NCAA record 93-match losing streak. Casado turned in two
double-doubles with 30 or more kills on the same day. She averaged 6.91
kills, 4.18 digs, 1.09 aces and 8.14 points per game while hitting .371 in
the three victories. Casado tallied school-records of 33 kills and 20 digs
to go with six aces while hitting .390 versus Philadelphia Sciences on Sept.
18. She contributed 30 kills and 18 digs with a .373 attack percentage
versus Nyack earlier on Sept. 18. Casado added 13 kills, four aces and eight
digs versus Felician to snap the Highlander losing streak on Sept. 16.
Casado is the first Highlander to win the national award in school history.
The NJIT head coach is Ryan McNeil.
