Crystal Hudson, a junior middle blocker from Alabama, has
been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week.
Hudson led her team to home wins this past week over Kentucky and
then-eighteenth-ranked Tennessee. Hudson, in a sweep of the Wildcats,
tallied 14 kills, hitting an outstanding .824 with no errors in 17 attempts;
she also added three blocks. The Crimson Tide junior also came through in
the upset over Tennessee, where she put away 22 kills with a hitting
percentage of .444 and two blocks. Hudson averaged 5.14 kills per game for
the week, hitting a very impressive .566. Crystal Hudson is the third
Alabama player to receive the Sports Imports/AVCA National Player of the
Week award, and the first since 1998. The Crimson Tide head coach is Judy
Green.
