Kelly Bowman, a 5-11 sophomore setter for second-ranked University of Minnesota (20-2, 9-1 Big Ten), has been chosen the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week after leading the Gophers to victories over Purdue and Indiana. Bowman, who just missed two triple-doubles last week, hit .556 on 27 swings while averaging 3.00 kills, 3.00 digs and 9.00 assists per game versus Big Ten teams. She tallied a .500 attack percentage with eight kills, 28 assists, 10 digs and two blocks versus Indiana as the Gophers hit .278 as a team on Oct. 22. Bowman contributed a .615 individual hitting percentage on 10 kills, 26 assists and eight digs in a sweep of Purdue on Oct. 23. Minnesota, using a 6-2 offense, hit .295 as a team versus the Boilermakers. For the season, she averages 2.45 kills, 6.49 assists and 3.16 digs per game. Bowman has recorded five triple-doubles this season. She is the fifth Gopher player to earn the national award. The Minnesota head coach is Mike Hebert.
