Alisha Glass, a
sophomore setter for No. 1 Penn State University, has been named this week’s
Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week. Glass
controlled the Penn State offense as the Nittany Lions clinched their fifth
consecutive Big Ten Championship over the weekend. Against No. 9 Wisconsin,
Glass distributed 59 assists and supplied 10 digs to collect her ninth
career double-double. She led the top-ranked Nittany Lions to an impressive
.346 hitting percentage, helping three teammates to 15 or more kills
apiece. The following night against Illinois, she dished out 40 more
assists, adding two kills, five digs and six blocks. Like a good offensive
director does, she again led three teammates to 10 or more kills each, and
set the team to a .355 hitting clip. Glass averaged 14.10 assists per game
over the two matches, as the team combined to hit .350, with three different
hitters registering over four kills per game. She also averaged over two
digs and one block per game. This honor marks the second time Glass has
been named Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week, and
it’s the fifth time a player from Penn State has won the award. Glass also
won the award in September of 2006. Penn State is coached by Russ Rose.
