Amber Holmquist, a 6-4 senior middle blocker
for fifth-ranked University of Nebraska (26-1), has been chosen the AVCA/Sports
Imports Division I National Player of the Week. Holmquist led the Huskers
to a 2-0 week, averaging 5.17 kills per game with a .622 hitting percentage.
She produced 31 kills on 45 attempts with just three errors. Holmquist
registered 13 total blocks for a 2.17 per game average and accounted for
39 points (6.50 per game) on the week. She collected 16 kills and 11 blocks,
while hitting .700 in a sweep of Kansas. Holmquist recorded 15 kills and
hit .560 in a 3-0 road victory over Baylor. She leads the Big 12 Conference
in blocks per game (2.19) and hitting percentage (.440) and was selected
as the league’s player of the week for her performance. The Huskers are
undefeated in the Big 12 at 18-0 with one weekend of conference play remaining
in the 2002 season.
