Syndie Nadeau, a 5-11 senior outside
hitter for fourth-ranked Penn State University (21-2, 12-2 Big Ten), has
been chosen the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week
after leading the Nittany Lions to Big Ten road victories over fifth-ranked
Minnesota and Iowa. Penn State moved into a tie for first place in the Big
Ten with the two victories. Nadeau hit .397 on 68 swings for the week, in
addition to averaging 4.28 kills, 3.43 digs, 0.71 blocks and 0.86 assists
per game. She turned in a double-double of 19 kills and 13 digs against
Minnesota, while adding three blocks and five assists. She hit .348 against
the Gophers, who allow just a .157 team attack percentage during the season,
and finished two kills shy of a personal record. Nadeau charted 11 kills, 11
digs and two blocks versus Iowa. She hit .500 against the Hawkeyes without
an error. Nadeau raised her season attack percentage to .311 and her per
game averages to 2.91 kills and 3.00 digs per game. She is the first Nittany
Lion player in school history to earn the national award. The Penn State
head coach is Russ Rose. |
