NATIONAL COACH OF
THE YEAR
COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO – The American Volleyball
Coaches Association (AVCA), in conjunction with Tachikara USA, Inc, is
proud to announce that Wayne King of Kishwaukee Community College (Ill.)
has been selected as the 2002 AVCA/Tachikara Two-Year College National
Coach of the Year.
Kishwaukee’s 2002 season (57-2) ended on
a high note as the Kougars won NJCAA Division II National Championship
for the second straight year. King was named the NJCAA National Tournament
Coach of the Year for the third time and was also the AVCA/Tachikara Two-Year
College Midwest Region Coach of the Year in 2001.
King has finished his fifth year at Kishwaukee
and has led his team to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament three
of those years. In 2000, his team finished fifth before winning the tournament
the last two years. He was named Arrowhead Conference Coach of the Year
all five years and was also the District Coach of the Year three times.
His overall coaching career record at Kishwaukee
is 238-22 and has never lost a conference match (56-0). He has coached
six AVCA Two-Year College All-Americans.
King has been a club coach for several
years and started his own club program (Club Fusion and Wisconsin Power)
four years ago. His club team has made it to the USA Junior Volleyball
National Tournament for eight straight years.
Tachikara will formally present the National
Coach of the Year award on Dec. 19 in New Orleans at the AVCA/Tachikara
Coach of the Year banquet. The brunch is held in conjunction with the 2002
AVCA National Convention.
