College Head Coach Jill Stinson Named 2005 Tachikara/AVCA Two-Year College
National Coach of The YearSM
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Dec. 7, 2005) – The American Volleyball Coaches
Association (AVCA), in conjunction with Tachikara USA, Inc, is proud to announce
that Johnson County Community College Head Women’s Volleyball Coach Jill Stinson
has been selected as the 2005 Tachikara/AVCA Two-Year College National Coach of
the YearSM.
Stinson led Johnson County to its first-ever National Junior College Athletic
Association Division II national championship. After winning all three of their
pool-play matches, the Cavaliers earned a spot in the final by winning a
five-game match over tournament-host Scottsdale Community College in the NJCAA
Division II Championship Semifinal. The Cavaliers completed their run with a
four-game victory over top-ranked Cowley County Community College in the title
match.
Stinson has compiled a 244-103-1 record (.703) in her 10 years at Johnson County
including an 89-19 mark the last three seasons. Under her tutelage 39 players
have been named All-Jayhawk Conference. She has also coached 24
all-region/district players and five AVCA All-Americans. Stinson also led the
team to a national tournament berth in 2003, the team’s first appearance since
1983.
Tachikara
will formally present the AVCA Two-Year College National Coach of the YearSM
award on Dec. 15 in San Antonio at the Tachikara/AVCA Coach of the Year and
Victory Club AwardsSM banquet. The brunch is held in conjunction with
the 2005 AVCA Annual Convention.
