LEXINGTON, Ky.

The following coaches have been selected by their regions as the 2007 AVCA
Two-Year Colleges Region Coaches of the Year. Each of the honorees will
represent their region on the 2007 AVCA Two-Year Colleges National Coach of the
Year ballot. The awards will be officially presented at the 2007 Jostens Coaches
Honors Luncheon in Sacramento, Calif., on Thursday, Dec. 13, at the 2007
American Volleyball Coaches Association Annual Convention.

Region Coaches of the Year
Beth
Domenico and Hagerstown Community College finished 2007 with a 42-6 record,
after losing 14 matches just a year ago. Making their fifth consecutive
appearance in the NJCAA Division II National Tournament, the Hawks were seeded
eighth and a came away with a 7th-place finish, going 2-2 in the event.
Hagerstown was ranked in the top 10 in the NJCAA Division II Volleyball Poll
every week but one this season, climbing as high as seventh and finishing No.
8. Domenico, who passed the 200-win mark at Hagerstown in 2007, wins her first
AVCA Two-Year Colleges Northeast-Southeast Region Coach of the Year award.
Gene Doorley, Alfred State College
NJCAA Division III
Gene Doorley answered a
historic 2006 season at Alfred State College with the school’s first Regional
title since 1977. The Lady Pioneers finished the season ranked No. 5 in the
NJCAA Division III Volleyball Poll, and spent the whole season in the top 10.
Making their first appearance in the NJCAA Division III National Tournament
since 1977, Alfred State finished 5th in the event, and ended the season with a
36-6 mark. Doorley, who won his 100th match at ASC earlier in the season, has
now won the AVCA Two-Year Colleges Northeast-Southeast Region Coach of the Year
two consecutive seasons.

the Year
Jeff Juenger, Southwestern Illinois College
NJCAA Division II
Jeff Juenger led Southwestern
Illinois College to a 3rd-place finish in the 2007 NJCAA Division II National
Tournament. Although they were the No. 6 seed going into the event,
Southwestern capitalized on wins over the numbers three and four seeds to take
home the bronze in this year’s tournament. The Blue Storm ended the season in
the NJCAA Division II Volleyball Poll where they began, in the top 10, finishing
at No. 7, after starting the year at No. 8.
Jill Stinson, Johnson County Community College
NJCAA Division II
Following a 27-12 record a
year ago, Jill Stinson led Johnson County Community College to a 28-5 finish in
2007, and a runner-up finish in the NJCAA Division II National Tournament.
After not making the tournament for a 20-year span, Stinson has led the
Cavaliers to the event four of the last five years, including the championship
in 2005. In 11 years at JCCC, Stinson is just shy of 300 wins, and has now won
the AVCA Two-Year Colleges Midwest Region Coach of the Year two times, taking
the honor in 2005 as well.

of the Year
Jane Peterson, Central Lakes College
NJCAA Division III
Jane Peterson led Central
Lakes College to the 2007 NJCAA Division III National Championship, their third
in the last eight seasons. Peterson’s Raiders have won their region and
qualified for the national tournament seven of the last eight years, and have
not finished below third place. Peterson, who has been the head coach at
Central Lakes since 1990, how has over 400 wins at the helm of the Raiders.
Charity Savedra, Frank Phillips College
NJCAA Division I
In just her second season as
head coach, Charity Savedra led her Frank Phillips College team to the best
record in the history of the volleyball program at 42-3. The Lady Plainsmen,
undefeated in conference play, advanced to the NJCAA Division I Tournament,
garnering the No. 3 seed. FPC finished fourth in the event, having advanced to
the semifinals for the first time in school history. Savedra has won 81 matches
in just two seasons at the helm of the Lady Plainsmen, and has won her first
AVCA Two-Year Colleges Southwest Region Coach of the Year honor.

the Year
Chris Green, Western Nebraska Community College
NJCAA Division I
Chris Green and Western
Nebraska Community College followed up an NJCAA Division I national runner-up
season in 2006 by taking home the national championship trophy for the first
time in school history in any athletic program in 2007. WNCC entered the
tournament as the number five seed with a 50-2 record, and won four consecutive
matches to win the championship. In just nine seasons, Green has led the
Cougars to nine consecutive tournament appearances, five national semifinal
appearances, and over 450 wins. This honor marks the third consecutive AVCA
Two-Year Colleges West Region Coach of the Year award for Green, and his fourth
overall.
Shay Goulding, Salt Lake Community College
NJCAA Division I
Shay Goulding guided a Salt
Lake Community College team that lost 17 matches a year ago, to a 44-2 record
and the top seed in the NJCAA Division I National Tournament in 2007. Salt Lake
lost to eventual national champion Western Nebraska in the semifinals in five
games, but rallied to win the third-place match in the tournament. In just five
seasons at the helm of the Bruins, Goulding has now led the team to four
consecutive national tournament appearances, including a national runner-up
finish in 2004. This is Goulding’s second AVCA Two-Year Colleges West Region
Coach of the Year honor, garnering the award in 2004 as well.
