Idaho's Hai Yan Wang Named 1997 AVCA JC/CC Player of the Year
Colorado Springs, Colo.
- The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) is pleased to announce
that the College of Southern Idaho's Hai Yan Wang has been selected the
1997 AVCA JC/CC Player of the Year.
This season Wang, a sophomore setter/outside
hitter, led the Golden Eagles to their fifth consecutive in the National
Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) championship. She averaged
4.89 assists, 2.78 kills, .74 blocks and .45 aces per game along with a
.458 attack percentage. She earned tournament MVP honors at the NJCAA
national tournament for the second consecutive season, becoming only the
second student-athlete to accomplish that feat.
She has led the team to a 121-1 overall
record in the last two seasons, including two regional and national titles.
The formal presentation of her award will
be made Dec. 19, 1997, in Spokane, Wash., at the AVCA Player of the Year/All-America
brunch beginning at 9:30 a.m. The brunch, which will take place at
the Spokane Doubletree City Center, is held in conjunction with the 1997
AVCA National Convention.
