Devin Zolnowski, a 6-5 junior outside hitter for then-No. 6 New York
University, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III Men’s
National Player of the Week. He earns the award after helping lead the
Violets to four wins last week, the best start the team has had to open its
season in the rally-scoring era. In NYU's first match, a 3-1 win over
Division II-Mercyhurst, Zolnowski tallied 24 kills, seven digs, four total
blocks and one ace. He followed that up by scoring 12 kills, four digs and
one block in a sweep of then-No. 8 D'Youville. In the team's third match of
the week, he netted 15 kills, five digs, three total blocks and two aces in
a 3-1 defeat of then-No. 13 Medaille, and then closed out the week by
putting away 18 kills, seven digs and four total blocks in a sweep of
Division II-Mount Olive. For the week, Zolnowski averaged 4.93 kills, 1.64
digs and 5.75 points per game. This is the 15th time player from NYU has
earned the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III Men's National Player of the
Week award. The last player to earn the award was Macnair Sillick on March
12, 2007. The Violets are coached by Jose Pina.
