Zacarias Ripoll, a 5-9 setter for Hunter College, has been named the Sports
Imports/AVCA Division III Men’s National Player of the Week. He earned the
award for his solid play in helping the Hawks to two wins last week,
including an upset of then-No.11 Philadelphia Biblical. Ripoll started the
week with a double-double against the Crimson Eagles, scoring 51 assists and
11 kills in Hunter’s 3-1 win. He also chipped in seven digs and four blocks
in the match. Ripoll then lead the Hawks to a sweep of SUNY Institute of
Technology in its final match of the regular season. Against the Wildcats,
he handed out 22 assists, and collected nine kills, eight digs and three
aces. For the week, he averaged 10.43 assists, 2.86 kills, and 2.14 digs per
game. Ripoll is just the second player from Hunter to earn the Sports
Imports/AVCA Division III Men's National Player of the Week award. The other
player to earn the honor was Michael McFalls on March 21, 2003. The Hawks
are coached by Ray Bello.
