Paul Carroll, a 6-7 right side/opposite for then-No. 2 Pepperdine
University, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II Men's
National Player of the Week. He earned the award after propelling the Waves
to wins over two nationally ranked teams last week, then-No. 14 UC Santa
Barbara and then-No. 8 Cal State Northridge. All told, the junior scored
47.5 percent of all Pepperdine's kills in both matches. In the 3-1 win over
UC Santa Barbara, Carroll pounded down 30 kills, the fifth time in his
career he broke the 30-kill mark. He also added four total blocks and two
aces in the victory. He followed that up with a 17-kill, six-block and
four-ace performance in the Waves sweep of Cal State Northridge. For the
week, Carroll hit at a .486 clip, while averaging 6.71 kills, 1.43 blocks
and 8.29 points per game. This is the 17th time a
player from Pepperdine has earned the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II
Men's National Player of the Week award. Carroll was also the last
Pepperdine player to earn the award, garnering the honor on April 16 of last
season. The Waves are coached by Marv Dunphy.
