Taylor Wilson, a 6-7 right side/opposite for then-No. 10 UC Irvine, has been
named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II Men's National Player of the
Week after helping his team two wins over nationally-ranked opponents last
week, including an upset of then-No. 2 Pepperdine. In the Anteaters’ 3-1
defeat of the Waves, Wilson put away 24 kills in 47 attempts and only eight
errors for a .340 hitting percentage. He also had four digs and three total
blocks in the win. Then in UCI's 3-1 over then No. 11 Southern California,
he scored 19 kills, five digs and three total blocks in the win. For the
week, Wilson averaged 5.38 kills, 1.12 digs and 6.13 points per game. This
is the ninth time a player from UC Irvine has earned the Sports Imports/AVCA
Division I-II Men's National Player of the Week. The last Anteater to
receive the honor was Matt Webber on April 30, 2007. UC Irvine is coached by
John Speraw, the 2006 AVCA Division I-II Men’s National Coach of the Year.
